2014 Evaluation – West of Papcastle

Following the Geophysical survey carried out in March – April, we decided to target the D shaped enclosure with circle that was revealed in the results for this year’s evaluation. The site was fairly clean, artefact wise, but we did find some pottery in the termini of the enclosure ditches that marked the entrance. This pottery was dated to the 3rd Century, indicating that this area west of Papcastle was in use then, though the enclosure itself was probably constructed before this date.

The photos are in the gallery below.

The D shaped Enclosure Report is available to download. This is the interim report as we are waiting for a couple of reports to be added.

A big thank you to all our volunteers who helped out during this lovely sunny week.

Thanks for a very interesting and enjoyable 3 days at the dig with with Mirabel and Viola. Where do I look on this site to hear the latest news and is there a forum for discussion amongst volunteers? I think I heard people refer to one but I can’t find it. I hope all goes well for the rest of the dig. Regards, Elizabeth

      Hi Elizabeth,

I am glad you enjoyed it! Just keep an eye on here as we aim to do updates by posts and we will set up a dedicated page for this excavation where the photos will be uploaded to. The page will come up under the “Digs” tab very soon.
As for forum, users are welcome to comment on here.
