2011 Evaluation – Mansio Papcastle

In october 2011, as part of the development phase for the Discovering Derventio project, Grampus Heritage and Wardell Armstrong Archaeology led a team of enthusiastic local volunteers to undertake a two week excavation at Papcastle in Cumbria. The excavation opened two trenches and aimed to investigate a large building, thought to be Roman, discovered through geophysical survey in 2010.
